Olive Oil

I am a BzzAgent and recieved the following Filippo Berrio Olive Oil for free to try out and review. Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a 100% natural product.  It contains no trans fat, no cholesterol, no sugar, no salt, and no gluten.  Check out the "Your Health" section on filippoberio.com to learn more. The olive oil is great to use instead of butter, margarine, and other cooking oils. I received a substitution chart so I knew how much olive oil I should use instead of butter/margarine. If you are interested in the chart just go to filippberio.com.

The first thing I used the olive oil was to make pesto. I loved the way the pesto tasted. Then I used the olive oil in cooking in exchange for butter. I honestly could not taste a difference then when I use butter, which is good because the Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil is healthier. I plan on trying the Olive Oil in other recipes that I make to help make the dishes a bit healthier.

Here is a picture of my pesto I made.  It is not that great of a photo since I had to take it with my cell.

It is great having a product that I feel safe cooking with for my family, and know that it is healthy.  I have been having several health issues lately, and using this Olive Oil will be one good way to help these issues.  Along with the Olive Oil came a pamphlet about Living the Mediterranean Way.  It has some great steps of things to change in eating habits that will make you healthier.  A few that I am starting with are enjoying fresh fruit for dessert, eat at least a few vegetarian meals each week, and snack on nuts, seeds, and fruit rather then processed food snack.  If you are interested in Living the Mediterranean Way then check out filippoberio.com for further information. Lastly, I did receive some coupons for purchasing Filippo Berio Olive Oil along with some recipes if anyone is interested.

Last Day of First Year Preschool

I can't believe the first year has come to an end. M has had great year with Mrs. D and Mrs. S. I couldn't have asked for better teachers. When I uploaded her picture from today I looked back at her picture from her first day of school last year.  I can not believe how much she has grown and changed.  It brought me to tears how fast my first born is growing up.  Sometimes I wish she would stay little forever. Here are the pictures from her first day and her last day so you can see how much she has changed.

M on her first day of school. This picture brings back so many memories. I was so excited for her but sad at the same time that I was sending her off to school.  She was my little girl that was very attached to me and not use to being left with anyone other than grandparents and aunts. That day she amazed me so much, she just walked into her classroom without turning around and saying bye to me or her dad.

Here is M today on her last day of school! She was so excited it was her last day.  I on the other hand was not so excited.  Now we have a couple of months of summer to spend together, then it is back to the same school for M and she will be in Junior Kindergarten since she misses the cutoff for Kindergarten by 10 days.  A will be starting here also, so I will have a few hours to myself a couple days of week. I guess we will just enjoy the summer for now with all the fun activities we have planned.

Breast Cancer Awareness

I am writing this post to share about the need to raise money to help get breast screenings for all women. This July will be a year from when I had my first mammogram and it came back that they saw something. I had to go back and have further tests ran to see what it was. Luckily, it ended up being a dense mass of tissue and I had insurance to cover these tests. This was right after my mom had a scare earlier in the year and my sister that was 25 at the time found a lump and had to have it removed because it had all the signs and factors of becoming cancerous at some point. Both of my grandmothers had breast cancer, fought it, and survived. One is no longer with us today for other health reasons. I have know many others that have had breast cancer and some of them are still with us and others did not make it. Screenings for women are so important to help catch anything before it is to late, and unfortunately it is to late for some women because they don't have the money or insurance to help them get these screenings.

A wonderful crafter and mom, I met online at Cafemom, that makes Mon-stors has made a special Breast Cancer Awareness Mon-stor. She is raffling it off to help raise money for the Susan G Komen Foundation  to donate free breast cancer screenings to clinics, so that women without insurance and money are able to get the screenings and treatments needed.   Please go to her blog post here to see how you can make a donation and be entered to possibly win this cute Mon-stor. After you purchase a raffle ticket there are a few other ways to enter your name into the raffle also.

Chasing the Sun by Tracie Perterson

Chasing the Sun is about a woman named Hannah Dandridge that is helping raise her younger siblings and care for the Texas ranch her father acquired after he disappears. She seeks Gods direction during this difficult time when one man is trying to take over her and the ranch for reasons she is not aware, and another man whose family originally owned the ranch comes back from war to reclaim his ranch.

I have never read anything by Tracie Peterson before, and am now a fan and looking to read some of her other books along with the rest of the books that she writes for this series.  Chasing the Sun is book one in the series, and I look forward to reading the rest.  I enjoy reading before I go to bed, and found it very hard to put the book down to go to sleep at night. One thing I really enjoyed about this book was that it had me in suspense up to the very end as to what was going to happen to Hannah. It was a great story to read about a women that kept looking to God to get through all the rough times and issues that she was dealing with. Loved the way it ended and would love to read more about Hannah and her future.

I received this book from Bethany House Publishing Group for free to read and review with my honest opinions and thoughts.

Monsters, Monsters, Monsters!

I have completed another one of my crochet monsters. This one was made for my son A. There are a total of four monsters that I will be making so I only have two more to make. If you are interested in purchasing one click on my storenvy page button on the right side of the page or click here.   I will be selling them for a reduced cost until I have completed all four.

Sombrero Cookies for Cinco De Mayo

We made these fun cookies for our Mom's Club monthly meeting where we brought recipes to try related to Cinco De Mayo. My kids loved helping me make these. First I made some sugar cookies. Then using icing I placed some around the effect of the cookie, and then put sprinkled on the icing. Lastly, we put icing on bottom of gum drops and placed them in the middle of the cookie. They were a big hit with the kids, and I came home with an empty platter.

Sneak Peek at New Crochet Project

Check out the sneak peek of my newest project in the works.

Pattern is by Timaryart Designs.  Will come back and share when it is finished!

Photo Flowerpots

I made these easy, cute flowerpots for Mother's Day. First I printed several black and white photos of my kids, and then figured out where to place them and cut down to size I needed. Then using mod podge I attached them to the flower pot, and then mod podged over all the pictures a couple of times. After it was dry I sprayed a sealer over the pictures. I picked out a cute ribbon to wrap around the top. Lastly, the kids picked out flowers and planted them in the flower pots. We will be giving them to my mom and mother in law as gifts for Mother's Day.
